The pursuit of happiness is an inward journey

Hi, Todays story makes us realize that sometimes we take things for granted. Sometimes we see people with their successes and their material wealth, and we wonder why we always seem to get the short end of the stick. Sometimes, some of us become so obsessed with others’ seeming good fortune, we cannot see our own blessings for we are too busy watching everybody else.
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour a day to drain the fluids from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back.
The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. And every afternoon when the man in the bed next to the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window.
The man in the other bed would live for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the outside world. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake, the man had said. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Lovers walked arm in arm amid flowers of every color of the rainbow. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band, he could see it in his mind's eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Unexpectedly, an alien thought entered his head: Why should he have all the pleasure of seeing everything while I never get to see anything? It didn't seem fair. As the thought fermented, the man felt ashamed at first. But as the days passed and he missed seeing more sights, his envy eroded into resentment and soon turned him sour. He began to brood and found himself unable to sleep. He should be by that window - and that thought now controlled his life.
Late one night, as he lay staring at the ceiling, the man by the window began to cough. He was choking on the fluid in his lungs. The other man watched in the dimly lit room as the struggling man by the window groped for the button to call for help. Listening from across the room, he never moved, never pushed his own button which would have brought the nurse running. In less than five minutes, the coughing and choking stopped, along with the sound of breathing. Now, there was only silence--deathly silence.
The following morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths. When she found the lifeless body of the man by the window, she was saddened and called the hospital attendant to take it away--no words, no fuss. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone.
Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look. Finally, he would have the joy of seeing it all himself. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window beside the bed. It faced a blank wall.
The man, beside himself with shock, pressed the button to call the nurse and agitated, he asked "What could have compelled my deceased roommate to describe such detailed and wonderful things outside this window? There is nothing to see. Where are all the wonderful things he saw? Is this a new and recent wall? Why did he give me such vivid details that don't exist?"
The nurse shook her head sadly and answered his questions with a shake of her head, “Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you and make you happy. You see, your roommate was totally blind”.
So often we look at others and envy what they have, just like the jealous and selfish man in the hospital room. In that envy he allowed his friend to die so he could experience first hand the beautiful view his friend described whenever he looked through the window
Moral of the story:
The pursuit of happiness is a matter of choice...it is a positive attitude we consciously choose to express. It is not a gift that gets delivered to our doorstep each morning, nor does it come through the window. And I am certain that our circumstances are just a small part of what makes us joyful. If we wait for them to get just right, we will never find lasting joy.
The pursuit of happiness is an inward journey. Our minds are like programs, awaiting the code that will determine behaviors; like bank vaults awaiting our deposits. If we regularly deposit positive, encouraging, and uplifting thoughts, if we continue to bite our lips just before we begin to grumble and complain, if we shoot down that seemingly harmless negative thought as it germinates, we will find that there is much to rejoice about.

Human Relation:

  ''Alone I can 'Say' but
    together we can 'talk'.

    'Alone I can 'Enjoy' but
     together we can
    'Celebrate'.

    'Alone I can 'Smile' but
    together we can 'Laugh'.

    That's the BEAUTY of
    Human Relations.

The evil you do, remains with you. The good you do, comes back to you.

A woman baked chapatti (roti) for members of her family and an extra one for a hungry passerby. She kept the extra chapatti on the window sill, for whosoever would take it away. Every day, a hunchback came and took away the chapatti. Instead of expressing gratitude, he muttered the following words as he went his way: “The evil you do remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!”

This went on, day after day. Every day, the hunchback came, picked up the chapatti and uttered the words: “The evil you do, remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!” The woman felt irritated. “Not a word of gratitude,” she said to herself… “Everyday this hunchback utters this jingle! What does he mean?”

One day, exasperated, she decided to do away with him. “I shall get rid of this hunchback,” she said. And what did she do? She added poison to the chapatti she prepared for him! As she was about to keep it on the window sill, her hands trembled. “What is this I am doing?” she said. Immediately, she threw the chapatti into the fire, prepared another one and kept it on the window sill. As usual, the hunchback came, picked up the chapatti and muttered the words: “The evil you do, remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!”

The hunchback proceeded on his way, blissfully unaware of the war raging in the mind of the woman. Every day, as the woman placed the chapatti on the window sill, she offered a prayer for her son who had gone to a distant place to seek his fortune. For many months, she had no news of him.. She prayed for his safe return.

That evening, there was a knock on the door. As she opened it, she was surprised to find her son standing in the doorway. He had grown thin and lean. His garments were tattered and torn. He was hungry, starved and weak. As he saw his mother, he said, “Mom, it’s a miracle I’m here. While I was but a mile away, I was so famished that I collapsed. I would have died, but just then an old hunchback passed by. I begged of him for a morsel of food, and he was kind enough to give me a whole chapatti. As he gave it to me, he said, “This is what I eat everyday: today, I shall give it to you, for your need is greater than mine!”

As the mother heard those words, her face turned pale. She leaned against the door for support. She remembered the poisoned chapatti that she had made that morning. Had she not burnt it in the fire, it would have been eaten by her own son, and he would have lost his life!

It was then that she realized the significance of the words “The evil you do remains with you: The good you do, comes back to you!”

Moral -

Do good and Don’t ever stop doing good, even if it is not appreciated at that time. The willingness to share does not make one charitable; it makes one free

Made A Difference To The One:

As a man walked a desolate beach one cold, gray morning he began to see another figure, far in the distance. Slowly the two approached each other, and he could make out a local native who kept leaning down, picking something up and throwing it out into the water. Time and again he hurled things into the ocean.

As the distance between them continued to narrow, the man could see that the native was picking up starfish that had been washed upon the beach and one at a time, was throwing them back into the water. Puzzled, the man approached the native and asked what he was doing. “I’m throwing these starfish back into the ocean. You see, it’s low tide right now and all of these starfish have been washed up onto the shore. If I don’t throw them back into the sea, they’ll die up here from lack of oxygen.”

“But there must be thousands of starfish on this beach,” the man replied. “You can’t possibly get to all of them. There are just too many. And this same thing is probably happening on hundreds of beaches all up and down this coast. Can’t you see that you can’t possibly make a difference?”

The local native smiled, bent down and picked up another starfish, and as he threw it back into the sea he replied, “Made a difference to that one!”

Power of ONE : Each of us is but one person: limited, burdened with our own cares and responsibilities. We may feel there is so much to be done, and we have so little to give. We’re usually short of everything, especially time and money.

When we leave this shore, there will still be millions of starfish stranded on the beach. Maybe we can’t change the whole world, but there isn’t one of us who can’t help change one person’s whole world. One at a time. We can make a difference.

The Unconditional Love:

Hi, today's article is a motivational story on Love and Sacrifice. We are so busy that we do not have time to value our relationships with our near and dear ones ! Read on to know about it and learn the art of selfless love and sacrifice from a little boy named John....

The family doctor told little John that he could save his sister's life by giving her some blood. The little five-year-old girl was very near death, she was a victim of the same deadly disease from which John, her elder brother of age eight, had made a marvellous recovery two years earlier. The only chance for restoration to health was a blood transfusion from someone who had previously conquered the
illness. Since the two children [John and the sick little sister] had the same rare blood type, the boy was the ideal donor.

"John, would you like to give your blood for your sister Mary?" the doctor asked him. The boy hesitated. His lower lip started to tremble out of fear. Then he finally smiled, and said, "Yes, Doctor. I'll give my blood for my sister."

Soon the two children were wheeled into the operating theatre - Mary, now very pale and thin; John, robust and the picture of health. Neither of them said a word, they both remained silent. but when their eyes met, John grinned. As his blood siphoned into Mary's veins, one could obviously see new life come into her weak and tired body. The ordeal was almost over when John's brave little voice broke the long silence, "Say Doctor, when will I die?" It was only then that the doctor realised what the moment of hesitation, the trembling of the lip, had meant earlier.

Being just a little boy, John actually thought that when giving his blood to his sister he was giving up his life! And in that brief moment, the final decision that he had
made was the greatest love of all... The doctor was moved by the little boy's brave final decision... the unconditional sacrificing love...

MESSAGE OF THE STORY

Sacrificing out of what you have is human nature, but sacrificing all of what you have needs a lot of LOVE.

Nowadays people always think of what they can get in return before giving, if the return is less than their givings, then they will be reluctant to give.

Always think of what you can do to help others and not just what you can get from them.

"I Knew You Would Come....

Hi, Today I have post a short story on Friendship. Many times in life, whether a thing is worth doing or not, really depends on how you look at it. Take up all your courage and do something your heart tells you to do so that you may not regret not doing it later in your life.

Horror gripped the heart of the World War I soldier as he saw his lifelong friend fall in battle. Caught in a trench with continuous gunfire whizzing over his head, the soldier asked his lieutenant if he might go out into the “no man’s land” between the trenches to bring his fallen comrade back.
“You can go,” said the lieutenant, “but I don’t think it will be worth it. Your friend is probably dead and you may throw your life away.” The lieutenant’s advice didn’t matter, and the soldier went anyway. Miraculously he managed to reach his friend, hoist him onto his shoulder and bring him back to their company’s trench. As the two of them tumbled in together to the bottom of the trench, the officer checked the wounded soldier, and then looked kindly at his friend.
“I told you it wouldn’t be worth it,” he said. “Your friend is dead and you are mortally wounded.”
“It was worth it, though, sir,” said the soldier.
“What do you mean; worth it?” responded the Lieutenant. “Your friend is dead.”
“Yes, Sir” the private answered. “But it was worth it because when I got to him, he was still alive and I had the satisfaction of hearing him saying, “Jim…, I knew you’d come.”
Moral
We all have those people that are close to us and are special in our lives. But how many of us would be willing to save the life of a friend while giving up our own? It was once said “Greater love has no one than to lay down their life for a friend”. War doesn’t determine who’s right. War only determines who’s left.
Let’s all be thankful for the friends that we have and value the time that we spend with them.
A true friend is one who walks in, when the rest of the world walks out.
My wish for you -
May each and every one of you be blessed with the company of TRUE FRIENDS !

Greedyness is disastrous:

King Midas had lots and lots of gold. The more gold he had the more he wanted. He even built a very big treasure house where he stored all the gold. King Midas used to spend almost half of the day counting the gold.

One day, as he was counting as usual, a strange looking man appeared to him and said he would grant him a wish. King Midas was delighted and said, "I would like everything I touch to turn to gold." The stranger asked him, "Oh King, are you sure?" The king replied, "Yes, I'm absolutely sure" So the stranger said, "Ok, starting from tomorrow morning with the sun rays you will get the golden touch."

The king thought he must have been dreaming, this couldn't be true. But to his greatest surprise, the next day when he woke up, he touched the bed, his clothes, and everything turned into gold. He was very much happy that the wish wasn't a dream. He looked out of the window and saw his daughter playing in the garden. He decided to give her a surprise and thought she would be happy. But before he went to the garden he decided to read a book. Just immediately he touched the book, it turned into gold and he couldn't read it. Then he decided to have breakfast, as he sat to have the breakfast, the moment he touched the fruit and the glass of water, they turned to gold. Soon, he was getting more and more hungry and he said to himself, "I can't eat and drink gold." Just about that time his daughter came running in, he gave her a welcoming hug and she turned into a gold statue. There were no more smiles left. The king bowed his head and started crying.

The strange looking man who granted the wish came again and asked the king if he was happyvwith his golden touch. The king was ashamed, he told the strange man that he was the most miserable man. The stranger asked him another question, "What would you rather have, your food and loving daughter or lumps of gold and her golden statue?"

At this point, the king cried and asked for forgiveness. He said, "I will give up all my gold. Please give me my daughter back because without her I have lost everything worth having." The stranger said to the king, "You have become wiser than before" and he reversed the spell. He got his daughter back in his arms and the king learned a lesson that he never forgot for the rest of his life.

MORAL OF THE STORY

1. Always think very deeply before making choices, each choice you make has its own consequence, so make wise choices.

2. Distorted values lead to tragedy.

3. Sometimes getting what you want may be a bigger tragedy than not getting what you want.

4. Unlike in soccer games where players can be substituted, the game of life allows no substitutions or replays. We may not get a second chance to reverse our tragedies, as the king did.

Love can win invincible:

A Cracked Pot:

A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master’s house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master’s house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.

But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream.

“I am ashamed of myself and I want to apologize to you.”

“Why?” asked the bearer. “What are you ashamed of?”

“I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master’s house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don’t get full value from your efforts,” the pot said.

The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, “As we return to the master’s house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path.”

Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again the pot apologized to the bearer for its failure.

The bearer said to the pot, “Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot’s side? That’s because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you’ve watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master’s table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house.”

It’s our differences that make us unique & Beautiful.

The Donkey and His Purchaser

Hi, today story dwells on the fact that you are known by the company you keep !

A man wished to purchase a Donkey and decided to give the animal a test before buying him. He took the Donkey home and put him in the field with his other Donkeys.
The new Donkey strayed from the others to join the one that was the laziest and the biggest eater of them all.
Seeing this, the man led him back to his owner. When the owner asked how he could have tested the Donkey in such a short time, the man answered, "I didn't even need to see how he worked. I knew he would be just like the one he chose to be his friend."
Moral
There's no getting around the fact that this story is about judging. While we like to be judged on our merits, the fact is we're likely to be judged based upon other things.
We might want to make the useful distinction that while a person is apt to be judged by the company he / she keeps, that doesn't mean you have to choose to be like the company you keep.

Put Your Glass Down Today !

Hi, Do read this small story which comes with a very strong lesson for each and every one of us. It is a setting example on how we should handle the challenges / issues faced by us in our life ! Hope this story brings about a BIG change in YOU !!!

The Professor began his class by holding up a glass with some water in it. He held it up for all to see & asked the students “How much do you think this glass weighs?”
’50gms!’….. ’100gms!’ …..’125 gms’ …the students answered.
“I really don’t know unless I weigh it,” said the professor, “but, my question is: What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?”…. . ‘Nothing’ …..the students said.
‘Ok what would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?’ the professor asked. ‘Your arm would begin to ache’ said one of the student
“You’re right, now what would happen if I held it for a day?” “Your arm could go numb; you might have severe muscle stress & paralysis & have to go to hospital for sure!” ….. Ventured another student & all the students laughed.
“Very good. But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?” Asked the professor. ‘No’…. Was the answer. “Then what caused the arm ache & the muscle stress?”
.
The students were puzzled. “What should I do now to come out of pain?” asked professor again. “Put the glass down!” said one of the students
.
“Exactly!” said the professor.
Life’s problems are something like this. Hold it for a few minutes in your head & they seem OK. Think of them for a long time & they begin to ache. Hold it even longer & they begin to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything..
It’s important to think of the challenges or problems in your life, But EVEN MORE IMPORTANT is to ‘PUT THEM DOWN’ at the end of every day before you go to sleep…

That way, you are not stressed, you wake up every day fresh & strong & can handle any issue, any challenge that comes your way!
Moral
So, when you start your day, Remember friend to ‘PUT THE GLASS DOWN !

Goddess of Wealth & Goddess of Poverty

Once a beautiful and well-dressed woman visited a house. The master of the house asked her who she was; and she replied that she was the goddess of wealth. The master of the house was delighted and so greeted her with open arms.

Soon after another woman appeared who was ugly looking and poorly dressed. The master asked who she was and the woman replied that she was the goddess of poverty.
The master was frightened and tried to drive her out of the house, but the woman refused to depart, saying, 'The goddess of wealth is my sister. There is an agreement between us that we are never to live apart; if you chase me out, she is to go with me.'
Sure enough, as soon as the ugly woman went out, the other woman disappeared.

Birth goes with death. Fortune goes with misfortune. Bad things follow good things. Everyone should realize this.
Foolish people dread misfortune and strive after good fortune, but those who seek Enlightenment must transcend both of them and be free of worldly attachment.

Always happy:

Use everything with cautions:

Improving self will serve others:

Forgiveness:

Disrepect loots but love boots:
